Loved reading this book, it was such a great story, and I need to read more now!

Overall, I am now screaming about this book and need to start diving headfirst into more of Tessa Gratton's backlist.

I received an ecopy of this book via Netgalley; however, my opinions are my own.

This was a fascinating, meticulously detailed, very different story. Kind of a conglomoration of Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, and Beauty & the Beast, but ultimately telling a very different fairy tale about friendship, identity, occupying unsettling, liminal spaces, and challenging the binary. At times I felt like I wasn't quite connecting with the characters and occasionally couldn't track the narrative logic, but most of the time (especially as the story progressed) I was so invested and the ending was executed incredibly well.

This is Howl’s Moving Castle meets Beauty and the Beast, except everyone (everyone!) is queer. It’s excellent. In fact, I was going to give this four stars, but the ending was just so *satisfying* that it gets five.

(The cover is sort of unfortunate, just ignore that.)

Very odd. Super weird. Cool, but not my vibe.

A wonderfully dark, queer book that I can’t help but love. The characters are rich and complicated, and Kirin is definitely my fave. As always seems the case Gratton’s knocked it out of the park, and I can’t wait to read whatever she might come up with next.
