This book was excellent! I enjoyed that it was in present tense for Jael's POV's, becuast that's different, most of the time, it's past or something. I loved that the book challenged the misconception? that demons were evil. And I really loved Jael's way with the elements! The elements were so cute!
An okay book. I liked the story, but it went back and forth a lot.
Maybe it's because I read two amazeballs books before this, but I was finding it a little hard to care about what was going on. Sometimes I wanted to strangle the main character because she was being so dumb. Not the worst book I've ever read though...

Pulling mythology from numerous sources and tying it together, Jon Skovron creates his own world world for Jael, a half demon and her father - an ex-monk who is running from the demon that killed his wife.
Being half demon, Jael’s family has been on the run from one of the dukes who is out to kill her. On her sixteenth birthday, a present from her mother released her powers and as she learns to wield them she also learns more about her past and find that she has to fight hard for her future.
For the most part, this book was a bit on the slow side as we were introduced to Jael’s world and the situation she found herself in. However, the way that it was executed was interesting enough to keep my attention.
The best parts of the story was the background on Jael’s parents, I enjoyed the way it was fleshed out, allowing the reader to understand Jael’s mother and also the reason her father is so overprotective.
I was also surprised to see that her father was so involved in her life, this is one of the few young adult books where we see the parent playing an important role and that was a bit refreshing.
Overall, it was a good read and quick read.

Misfit had distinct differences from the usual YA supernatural genre. The main character Jael Pronounced "yah-EL" (pg128) is a 16 year old girl attending Catholic High school. Her dad Paul also teaches there and did I mention Jael is a demon? Oh yeah, but only on her mothers side, her father Paul is a human and once Jael is 16 she is supposed to come into her demon powers. The only problem is the other demons from Hell don't allow half breeds to exist. Misfits has the normal coming of age friendships and boyfriends, but since Jael can see into people souls the story takes some very dark turns. It might even be a little controversial with the Catholic church being one of the topics. This book was very good.

Misfit was so unlike anything else I've ever read and I loved every page of it! Jon Skovron put a whole new twist on the Heaven, Hell, and demon concept that really had my gears turning. Jael, the main character of this book, was a half-breed. She was half human (on her father's side) and half demoness (on her mother's side). Jael's heritage makes her a very special girl because half-breeds are pretty much hated by all the other demons because of the powers they possess. (Speaking of powers, the way Jon described how Jael controlled the elements was really awesome!) I really loved Jael's uncle Dagon, who was a Fish King demon. Jael's mother was actually murdered by this evil demon which left Jael's dad to be a single parent. Another aspect I really loved about this book was how we got to have lots of flashbacks of her mother and father's life. It was very cute to get to see they met and how they eventually fell in love. Speaking of love, I really liked Rob, the cute skater-dude with hidden depths. I also felt really sorry for Brittany, who is Jael's best friend, because she has been already been through so many hardships and she's only a teenager. Overall, I really connected with the characters and loved this book!!! It's definitely a must-read!!! <3
My official rating would have to be: 4.5/5 stars

The writing style was too amateur and I couldn't find myself enjoying the characters at all.
I tried. Honest I did. But when I read a character saying “lock and load” it lost me a little bit. Then a halfbreed demoness got mentioned. By the time the dear ole dad says “No powers, no horns, no nothing” I had hit my limit.
