the violence and gore that came with the book is chilling and gave me goosebumps but it also important to the plot of the story and the choices the characters make as well. i fell in love with the characters, fell in love with the writing but also need to research more and learn more as this book provoked me on wanting to expand more on learning.

Wow. I was blown away with the world building in this short book! It felt like a story that could be longer, and I would still eat it up. I'm not usually one to read magical realism, but man P. Djèlí Clark really knocked it out of the park. It was so enjoyable. I connected with the characters so fast. I will read anything by them in the future.

Wow. This book was amazing. I couldn’t put it down! I found it browsing on this app, looking for a new read…I’m so glad it was recommended for me. I won’t give away anything. All I’ll say is that you have to read it. It’s a quick read and the story moves fast. I wanted it to last longer, but it was so worth it. The writing was excellent and the characters really steal your heart. The book is emotional and intense. It’s something I can’t recommend enough. I really hope to see a sequel. I need more from Maryse. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
