This was a cute YA romance. Kelsie and Eric are arch rivals at a competitive high school. Their friendship (not) is full of misunderstandings and mis-judgements. She is being ghosted by her long time bestie and he by his girlfriend, so they agree to take a road trip together to find their friends. So far maybe the plot isn't that different than many similar stories. But they share some things other than being super smart. Kelsie was adopted from Korea and Eric has two dads and was born to a surrogate mother. When Eric was 12, his best friend died in a skating accident so he knows what losing a best friend is like. A fun, smart, boy-girl romance that normalizes non-traditional family make-ups.

I feel like this book is written for the sixteen-year-old me. I can't explain it.
It has its fair share of unrealistic moments that I would've cringed at even back in 2014. but the main character (Kelsie) seems exactly like the kind of the main character I thought I was when I was sixteen. Let's just say I'm glad I'm not sixteen anymore.

I love books that are set over the course of like, 3 days. It's one of the most enticing tropes to me. This book sucked me in and I finished it in a few hours.
Kelsie has been ghosted by her best friend, Briana, for the past month or so. Briana moved away and Kelsie has not really heard from her since. She knows she had to have done SOMETHING wrong, but she can't quite figure out what, and it's driving her crazy. She has been trying desperately to get in touch with Briana, to no avail.
Eric, Kelsie's rival at school, just got ghosted by his influencer girlfriend. Somehow, Kelsie and Eric get to talking, and find out Briana will be doing a campus tour of the school Eric's girlfriend goes to school at.... which results in the two of them driving across states to go confront their respective ghosters.
What happens next is a hours-long car trip, then a fun romp across a college campus - parties, restaurants, mishaps, getting to know each other better, all that you'd expect
I don't know that it brought a ton of big issues to the table, but not every book for teens needs to. The main issues are just individual issues Kelsie has - realizing things about herself and making little changes. Still the kind of thing that kids need to read (and some grown-ups)
Also the romance was very very cute, and I quite liked the way Kelsie's storyline with her friend ended. This was a quick and fun read through and through

Honestly, this was a random book I saw on my e-reader, but I decided to read it. I loved how everything was tied up in the end. I'll admit, I hated the main character at first. I really did. I can't say I ended up loving her in the end, but she had her redemption arc. So a 3/5 stars.

While this book was really easy to read, it left me wanting more. I did not feel a connection to any of the characters and was not wowed by the story itself.
