It took me a long time to finish it, and it's not a long book. The stories are interesting and raw and painful, but I could never fully connect (probably not the right time for short stories).

some parts are confusing and all but honestly, this is so beautifully written, and almost casually, as if someone were actually telling you the stories, like I kept trying to see what i didnt like but the writing was so pretty I kept forgetting and found myselfenjoying whatever the fuck happened, so yeah

This was sooooo good. The stories went together so beautifully. This is definitely like a 4.5 out 5 stars. Just took off a little because i felt lost about the character jumping at first but once i got it i was hooked!!

Brb. Gotta round up all the bits of my brain that Roxane Gay exploded out of my skull with her amazing writing.

Roxane Gay, as always, took my breath away with this collection about Haiti.

From Cozy Weather Time at Crooked Reads.

It took me a long time to finish this very short book of short stories bc im not a huge fan of short stories, but I would come back to this book multiple times, sometimes rereading certain chapters, and the writing in it is so beautiful. The images are so strong and absolutely pull you out of wherever you are to whatever setting she describes.

What can I say? Roxane Gay does NOT disappoint!

Great stories, very different, but loved that there seemed to be a connection between all of the stories (Haiti). Loved it.
