a good romance but the diversity felt kind of forced and there wasn't any room to guess about the characters because it was very blunt in its storytelling.

The way that Alison wrote about depression in this book hit close to home.

A queer love story with a side of mental health challenges is something that can be so personal??? 😭

This book is seriously so near and dear to my heart. There were moments of dialogue that could have been written by me because of how much they rang true.

My favorite read in a long time.

Content warning: It’s a queer romance, but it also isn’t an uber spicy book, but then again isn’t a closed door romance. In my opinion, the love scenes are mature content, but not explicit. I would still consider it smut, however. Hope that helps lol

I wanted to give this book the "just okay" three stars it deserves for the way it handled mental health, but I was constantly thrown off by having to wonder about how the anatomy works, unbelievable scenes (not in a good way) and the cringe of already old popular media references that I had to remove half a star. (Seriously, I'm pretty sure a lot of those references were old even before the book came out)

I'm feeling generous cause I didn't drop a whole one.

Also, what's up with the constant vomit?!

Read this after Hannah (A Clockwork Reader) raved about it in one of her reviews. In all honesty, I was really hoping this was going to be a 5-star read for me, but the second half kind of dipped in holding my interest at times.

Maybe it was because I knew as a reader that these two characters would end up together since this is a romance novel, but a lot of times I felt that Charlie and Dev's arguments kind of came out of nowhere, or happened very suddenly. I got a lot of whiplash in the second half because of that.

The first half and the ending though both really had me. It was tropey, their bonding was fun and cute, and seeing everything play out at the end was so great to watch. Especially given both of these characters are very open with the readers and with each other about their mental health, it was nice to see them get the happy ending they wanted.

Some quotes I liked:
"Isn't it wild that his true self is the version of Charlie Winshaw people liked the most?"
