Special thank you to the author for a copy of this eArc!

Wow. This novella featuring Nephele and Neri is a stunning addition to The Witch Walker series.

I loved getting a deep dive into these two characters and their story. I've had a soft spot for Raina and Alexi, but these two are definitely vying for first place.

Character development:
Yes. I've said it once, and I will say it again, character development can make or break a book for me. Weaks delivers (no surprise there) on the character development. I love that this book gives us more of Nephele and her kickass, take no prisoners, sassy personality. And the insight into Neri and getting to know him as a more complex character was a delight. His morally grey, "I'd do anything for you" vibe won me over pretty quickly.

The plot:
The story does take place directly after the events of the City of Ruin and gives insights into how each of the characters is dealing with the aftermath. I like that it bridges what is happening and gives us a lead into what we can expect in Book 4 when we will have Raina's POV back.

I love that this series just gets better with every additional story and I cannot wait for the next installment.

Goodness, the tension between Nephele and Neeri is freaking insane 🥵

It basically carries the entire book. I'm surprised there was room for any other plot!

But Charissa manages to let these two shine while also advancing the main story as well.

If there was one weak spot for me, it's Meg Sylvan's narration. It's definitely improved, but felt shaky at times. For me, if Congress down to whether I'm engrossed by the narrator or distracted by them. And, it just kept leaning towards the latter for me.
