The monsters Henderson devised for this book will definitely stick with you, but I think they would’ve been more successful as a collection of short stories rather than stringing all of them together in one narrative. It was hard to tell when the plot was advancing because so many characters were being introduced, with not much time to grow fond of them. Things didn’t really start clicking into place until 3/4 of the way into the book.
