It's like I'm staring at a train wreck and the train wreck is staring right back.

I picked up this manga because I realised that I had an ARC of volume 7 of this series that runs out in 3 days time, so I should finish volume 6 in order to review volume 7. This manga was high on my reading list but I have put it off to read other books/mangas, because the series is yet to be complete.

I really liked this volume surprisingly. I didn't like some of the plot points unsurprisingly, but I am shocked at the fact that I did enjoy this volume. I don't like the current storyline because it depicts a problematic and unhealthy relationship between a teacher and a student. It's wrong and takes advantage of the student. Even if you were to remove that element from their relationship, it's still not a very healthy relationship because they do not communicate to each other. Suzume literally stops herself from telling Mr. Shishio when her birthday is. It's not healthy in the slightest. But what I really liked about this volume was the fact that it's showing us that the relationship is unhealthy and that Mamura (a fellow high school student) would be a lot better with Suzume instead of Mr. Shishio, because they wouldn't have to keep their relationship a secret, Suzume acts like herself around Mamura (she doesn't around Mr. Shishio), and Mamura cheers her up and makes her feel better whereas Mr. Shishio does the opposite because of their secrecy. I think it's the start of the storyline which I'll enjoy because I absolutely love Mamura.

I enjoyed reading this volume. I would recommend this series but I would also warn that the beginning of the series is problematic with the depiction of a romantic relationship between high school student and a teacher.

It's starting to get a little creepier and feel a little more like manipulation. I don't think we're supposed to see it that way though? Idk. Suzume just needs to hurry up and shift her feelings over to Mamura, who is PRECIOUS. And Shishio needs to find himself a nice adult.

2022 review
Mamura still isn't my type (lol). But I do like that the series is veering more towards he and Yosano's romance arc/dynamic and going away from Satsuki. It's sad because if they were 31 and 39, they could be together, but it's the fact that he's too stupid and careless as an adult and she's naive and immature as a minor, obviously they shouldn't be together and Satsuki should really be shunned for allowing things to even escalate in that realm. But when I say if they were older, they could be together, doesn't necessarily mean I think they should. Satsuki's personality is annoying sometimes and I think I'm only rereading this manga just for nostalgia's sake.

2018 review
Awe, the heartbreak is so sad, but I really want Suzume to be okay in the end. Mamura isn't really my type, but he's much better than Satsuki. While he's vague and standoffish, at least when he's not he's completely transparent with Suzume.

This is where my personal feelings want to attack the star rating, because Shishio is a d- (*breathes*) jerk to put it extremely (extremely) lightly. This dude could not be more daft despite his age. He can't even comprehend how hard his girlfriend is working to make their relationship work, and rather than putting their relationship first, he goes out drinking with coworkers due to "peer pressure" (if you could even call it that). I follow with many of the other readers who have a deep and longing desire to kick Shishio where it counts. :)
