Another great read by Joelle Charbonneau. It was a great conclusion to this duology and I enjoyed it as much as the first.
No le doy las 5 estrellas por ciertos detalles que no me acabaron de convencer del todo.

Really enjoyed the first book but just couldn’t get into this one. Feels the same as all other YA novels. It was so predictable I just didn’t care anymore. So I dnf’d it at 14%. I’m regretting it now though so who knows maybe I will read more.
2.5! I did really enjoy this book and I thought the plot line was very interesting, however, I felt like it took too long for the story to pick up and with it being such a short book everything at the end was quite rushed. Most of the twists were also not that surprising, you could pretty much guess what would happen and who kept what secret but I still thought they were well done. I just wish we could have explored the world a little more and some of its origins (like why does Carys only have magic? Why was the kingdom cursed in the first place? Etc) but all in all it was a good book and I do kinda wanna know what Carys will be up to after everything that’s happened!
2.5
This might be my own fault since I didn’t remember much from the first book (which I really enjoyed and I think rated 4 stars).
I liked the relationship between Carys and her brother, but I felt that the resolution of the conflict happened too easily. It reminded me of the ending of the Tunnels series - with loads of deus ex machina.
I did like that this was a duology as opposed to a long, drawn out series like Throne of Glass.

Oh, yeah, this book was really satisfying to read! Loved the ending, it was so great to read!
Big Picture: A satisfying conclusion to this duology.
Pros: This second book builds on the character development started in the first. It also brings in some additional context to the world that helps round out the setting. Overall there is strong pacing, plenty of action to keep readers turning the pages, and an ending the fits with the overall story arc.
Cons: As with the first book, the world still feels ambiguous in some areas. Additionally, right at the end there are a number of plot twists thrown in. While none were inherently bad they didn't have as strong of emotional impact because of the rush at the end.
Overall, worth reading as a sequel.

Not bad, not the best book I’ve read, but overall kind of satisfying read. The first book was 100% better. Glad it’s only a duology because the third book would totally destroy it. Everything was solved and although it felt quite rushed in the end and quite boring at the beginning it was not badly written.
