Holly Jackson, girl, I love you but good lord you NEED a (better?) editor…. omfg if I catch one more very obvious grammar or spelling mistake in one of your books…. and all the mistakes on the film crew lingo side of things? Like queen your book was literally turned into a Netflix show… you should know they are MICS not MIKES….! MICROphone!!!! Not MIKEROphone!!!!!

Very unlikable main character, had a slight redemption arc towards the end. The ending felt dragged out and rushed.

This book has me all over the place! The concept sounded super interesting but I don’t think the execution was what I expected. That being said, I did finish this one in a day and a half! I always find that a good thriller has me finished in a about a day so it checks that box, but there were many aspects of this book that ruined it for me.
Bel was an unlikeable main character. She was quite boring and generally a rude person. She seemingly had absolutely no life. Her only friend (other than carter) was Sam, whom she has now disliked for years. She treated Ash awfully majority of the time. (Also their romantic relationship felt super forced!! I think they would have been better as just good friends, someone that Bel learned to trust). She did not have any hobbies or interests. She was consistently rude to basically all of the people around her. When she reunited with her mother, she was more disgusted and disappointed than anything else. I find that unrealistic, you’d think she would at least have a bit of empathy for this woman who has been missing for 16 years.
I read another review that said that Bel not trusting Rachel from the beginning was a dead giveaway that Rachel was not guilty, and I 100% agree with this!
Bel’s grandfather, Patrick, being so involved with the crime definitely threw me for a loop. This was a great plot twist, especially that he had rapidly lost his memory.
I found the novel too long considering the contents. It was interesting at the beginning, and then the middle felt SO long and drawn out, and then the last 60 or so pages were so fast paced! I honestly had a hard time wanting to continue during the middle because it was so repetitive. I feel like this would have been more interesting if Bel went down more suspect paths. She was SET on Rachel being a malicious liar and this didn’t work well. The audience could see that that likely was not the case so it made it hard to follow along willingly.
The ending was so insanely unrealistic. I mean Bel, Carter, and Rachel just pulled together how to get away with murder in the matter of a few hours? And managed to get Sherry completely out of the picture in minutes?
I read Five Survive by Jackson a few weeks ago and found that many of the novels shared the same problems. After reading AGGTM, it’s hard to live up! Pip seemed a lot more dynamic of a character then Red and Bel. I know that the ending of AGAD was a stretch, but majority of the series made sense! I think a HUGE part of a good novel is having a likeable main character that acts in a way that the audience understands, and that’s where The Reappearance of Rachel Price missed for me.
