the characters and plot are both AMAZING and i’m completely out of words, every chapter had me in shock there was rarely ever a dull moment and the different povs every chapter really keep you on edge, it is slow in the beginning but once everything is laid out it goes really fast, i could seriously talk about this book forever but i’ll leave it at this
i cannot explain to you how good it is please read it you won’t regret it

The plot was better than the previous books in my opinion, but I also thought it just felt a bit too long. I think this book was a lot stronger in its character work than its plot. The heist was interesting and I don't think I ever really found myself bored, it just felt like there was something missing to me, despite all of the characters having their moment to shine and show their abilities. The world building I think was pretty excellent, seeing a completely different side to the Grishaverse, the dirty, crime-ridden streets of Ketterdam. Bardugo really managed to create an atmosphere with this darker setting.
I've already mentioned the characters a couple of times but here I will go into some more detail. The characters we follow are very much morally grey and even anti-heroes. They are criminals doing something pretty good that will hopefully benefit the world, but for all the wrong reasons *cough* money *cough*. A lot of people disliked Inej, but I actually really liked her for the majority of the book. I have to say 'that' scene
Yep, this book is quite dark if you haven't gathered that already. I would say it is on the upper end of YA and there were a couple of gory moments which did shock me a bit at first because I'm not really good with that type of stuff but it wasn't too bad once I got used to it. The worst moment was (not a major spoiler)
To conclude, I rate it 5 stars, as I absolutely loved this book despite my complaints. It is really very character driven, gritty (for YA anyway) and I would definitely recommend giving it a chance even if you are a bit put off by the social media hype or from hating Shadow and Bone.

Though the overall story is much different, Six of Crows gave me slight Lunar Chronicles vibes (one of my favorite series of all time). I think it's mainly because both, again, follow a group of characters working together to pull off (a) risky plan(s). The prison break-in was especially gripping—reading the alternating POVs and watching the pieces fall into place as the characters roamed the Ice Court was intense! Perhaps Six of Crows will earn a spot among my all-time favorite series, but I'll have to read the sequel in order to decide.
I'm giving this book 4.5 stars, but I still have a few minor complaints. First, there's a trope that I don't like that I am pretty sure is going to be used: The way the story is going, I feel like the six main characters are all going to end up pairing up with each other in relationships. I could be wrong, but it certainly looks like the story could head in that direction. I'm not necessarily *complaining,* but I find this trope unrealistic and sometimes annoying. On that same note, there was one relationship (or at least the beginnings of one) in particular that seemed underdeveloped—like it came out of nowhere. Additionally, there were a few times at which I found the alternating POVs a bit difficult to differentiate between. The whole book is in third person limited, which means that the POVs are still significant, but I think that also meant that the story sometimes fell into a vague "narrator" tone instead of the internal monologue of a specific character.
But overall, I very much enjoyed Six of Crows and I will be continuing on to Crooked Kingdom!
