Holy cow! This was a surprise.

First and foremost, the title is like the most misleading cover I've seen, but it did make me buy it so in the end, it--deceivingly-- works.

This novel's about a girl named Cate who attends Umfraville Boarding School (i feel like i got the name wrong..) because some rich person from their family died and now shes's forced to attend there after the billions of dollars her parent inherited. This school has a Guild where they choose three Apprentices and from there the rest of the Guild and the new members play the Assassin Game, where someone gets chosen to "Kill" off other Guild members (by "killing" I mean an mildly-over-the-top-prank on them) But then, the Game becomes way too real.

Yup.

This book, will not be for everyone. Not because the content is oh-so-scary, but because the protagonist is kind of--idk, just how she thinks is mildly weird. Just her perspective is like --idk I'm not really good at describing...

If you picked this book up because you're expecting a creepy murder and blah blah blah like I was hoping for, you're gonna not really get it here. Yes, there is creepy scenes but not entirely THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN kinda thing.

And if you didn't like THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN I'm just saying that it's NOT a typical thriller. It's more of a mystery with some real violence and plot twists at the end.

By twists I mean many. The character is both really smart but super dumb because like SPOILERS AHEAD* I really wouldn't be with Vaughn at all. Like, a one night stand but boi that's it.

Do I recommend it? Yeah, if you're patient and can tolerate questionable behavior.

Then again, I'm not good at explaining, so ... yeah.

Plus, I read like the last chunk in one sitting like yay me.

Now I'm off to read THE DREAM THIEVES.....

The assassin game is YA but it felt very adult to me - not because there are adult themes, but because it was so well written that even in my late 20's, I could really resonate with the characters and immerse myself completely in the intriguing story of their school. Great thriller, great characters.

Good enough to keep me interested, but my goodness what a horrible story. It was a train wreck from start to end and the main character was ghastly.

I liked the plot but the tone of the book was too inconsistent for me to enjoy.
