Angst ridden and incredibly emotional, Rebellious Rockstar is the first in this new series by Azzi. It’s Derek and Allegra’s story and will have you feeling all the things. He’s the rockstar that comes from a terrible past, and she’s his bandmate’s little sister that’s taking time off from university to find her way. When the book begins, we find that they have a past that was certainly more than just friendly but not exactly anything serious at the same time. She finds herself in Boston at the band’s house looking for her brother, Levi, with whom her relationship isn’t close. Neither Derek nor Allegra have forgotten their brief encounter four years before on Allegra’s 17th birthday and being in such close proximity is bringing old feelings to the surface. Will these two be able to become more, or will they get in the way of their own happiness?

I adore Allegra. She’s young but trying to figure herself out in this world, and I find that she’s relatable in that way. Her relationship with Levi and her parents isn’t ideal, but that’s not stopping her from doing what she feels she needs to. And yes, she pines for Derek, but she keeps living her life the best way she knows how. He, on the other hand, is not only interesting but also will make you question him. I like that his past makes his present that much more complicated, and all that coupled with his feelings for Allegra makes for one angsty read.

This is part one of the trilogy, and as such it ends on a cliffhanger. I’m left wondering how what’s transpired will ever be okay, and I think that’s what makes this storyline so compelling. The tension between Derek and Allegra is palpable, and this plotline is done in such a way that it leaves you wanting more. I can’t wait to see what part two has in store for us.

Rebellious Rockstar - The Burnt Clovers Trilogy #1 - Review

Couple: Allegra Rousell & Derek Reiner

Author: Gina Azzi

Tropes: rockstar romance, forbidden, second chance, child hood crush, best friend’s little sister, brother’s best friend

Review: A short, witty nad tension filled rockstar romance. This book is the first part of Derek and Allegra’s story and will make you hate Derek. The story is dual POV and is full of all the things!

Allegra is a young woman who is the younger sister of Derek’s bandmate and throws everything into a spin when she suddenly shows up on their doorstep. Her character was the perfect amount of naïve, shy, smart and loud. The unrequited crush she had was the central ar. For her and I loved how as the story goes on she begins to create a world for herself in the city.

Derek on the other hand is heavily misunderstood and pushes her away until the end. I hated how he ended part 1 and I hope we see Allegra destroy him in book 2. The secrets he keeps from everyone tear him up inside and I felt like while he felt bad about how he treated Allegra it was not enough. Part of me hopes they do not end up together since he is not ready to handle anything real but part of me hopes he matures in the next book.

The book while short is full of wit, banter and growth. It is slower to build but ends on a bang. The ending will make you furious and wish book 2 was out so you can continue the story now.

Rating: 4/5, oo that ending..

Ooooh, y'all. I don't know whether to love or hate Derek right now. He is so in his own way and feels he deserves nothing good in his life. So he's doing everything he can to push Allegra away. And at first, it was just giving her whiplash. But then he just turned into an asshole.

The next book in this series is Resentful Rockstar and oh boy do I hope it's called that because Allegra is out living her life and not giving Derek the time of day. I don't want her to have anything to do with Derek until he gets it together and learns he can be the kind of man he think she deserves.

I'm hoping in the next two books we see Levi get his act together. And I hope Mav finds someone he falls in love with. I'd love to see the band and Allegra working more with Dre.

So while Derek made me feel some type of way, I'm still really looking forward to the next two books in this trilogy so I can read all about his redemption arc.
