Tough listen but such an important topic. First party character, driven telling the story of a woman, slowly realizing what her life means.

It's really hard to rate a memoir, but based on my whole experience with the book, I think it deserves 4.5 stars. The book just wrecked me from the inside. I was speechless about the trauma and cruelty that the author had to go through. No one can choose their own family, but the sad thing is that no matter what they have done to you, they are still your family. You can choose to walk away from them, but you will feel as if you have lost a piece of yourself. The author has all of my admiration, hands down for her effort. I would have never imagined a person who has gone through such a tragedy could come out so fine in the end.

The book delivers so powerfully how education can change a person in a good way. The proses were lyrical, mesmerizing, and just beautiful they flew through my mind, lingered in my head, and wrecked my heart inside out with the deep meanings behind them. The ending was just pure perfection.

I would recommend listening to the audiobook instead of reading because the background of the author's life was delivered so thoroughly that the first half of the book can be really slow.
