These books are really only scary to anyone under 12. After that you realize just how poorly written they are.

This might be one of the worst books I read from Goosebumps. Don't get me wrong; I love the Goosebumps series, but this book wasn't for me. I was put of from the dogs name (killer, who would name their dog like this?) and the ending. Imagine not being able to eliminate the evil so you start being kind to it and plop it's gone. What. The whole plot just felt trashy. Huge disappointment, but perhaps the next book will be better.

2022 October Reading Challenge
Prompt: read a middle grade book

I definitely liked this more than Be Careful What You Wish For. I appreciated how Kat and Daniel had to work together to figure out how to defeat the Grool and that Daniel didn't just end up being the stereotypical "annoying brother that only exists to be annoying". I did feel like certain parts dragged a bit too long and it definitely wasn't scary, but I also appreciated the realistic ramping up for stakes in this. The ending was just okay, it was pretty similar to how it ended in the tv show, but I feel like Stine dragged out the bad luck section too long and needed to wrap up the ending ASAP.

Overall though, this was a much more enjoyable read and made me curious to read more of the original Goosebumps books. A little outdated, but a fun read anyway.

I can think of a few people who deserve a Grool in their life.

This story was great! Loved how the tension was build. The story was at times creepy and I wondered how it would end. Good read.

It feeds on people's bad luck and Kat is now the new owner of this sponge.  This evil sponge was found in her new home and now all she does is want to be rid of the thing without consequences to herself.

It was captivating and a quick one to get through,  I liked the pacing and look into a reason to have bad luck.
