Oh this book is amazing to be read in a wild quick rush to be read slowly savoured with attention to absent punctuation

heartbreaking

Genius, two times over.

Benji if you see this this is my way of telling you I took your book home from the farm by accident

Finished this while waiting at Amtrak border control in Niagara Falls which felt very apt as the beauty of suburban new york is of course often compared by historians to that of Ancient Greece. Didn’t know if I’d get into this but I totally loved it and gobbled it up. So layered and so musical and so full of humanity. I was rooting for that little gay red freak!!

have no idea what to think of this. the format was novel and confusing and nothing really made sense to me but still interesting i guess! and also not totally what i expected, but i'll always be a lover of retellings of ancient myths so glad to have read it!

I am at a bit of a loss of words. I don't remember how first this came before me, but I bought myself a copy I came across last year. I finally decided to read this.

First, let me say that there is beautiful writing in this! It is absolutely gorgeous, lyrical writing, reminiscent of Homeric Hymns but for a modern audience. Beauty aside, this was a character study of childhood that moved into what became of the child into adulthood. I felt for Geryon so much.

I can even see multiple dissertations of this novel in verse of the many recurring motifs. Chief among them, I greatly enjoyed the ones surrounding time and desire. Volcanoes were a major part of this. Much like an eruption, this novel starts off a little slowly with a couple of rumbles only to pick up intensity and speed until it explodes. Brilliant. I will be reading this again in the future. I highlighted many passages, but the next read will be including my thoughts as they develop on this as I think and sit with what I've just read.
