Video review

This book was unique and creative in many ways and always beautifully lyrical, though the diction was confusing at times. It was a novel by way of a series of poems, and based on a myth of Herakles's trial killing Geryon, a red beast, to get his sheep. It is set in modern times and includes the characters Geryon and Herakles. Herakles breaks Geryon's heart after their sexual relationship. Geryon travels in South America, pursuing his interest in photography and autobiography writing. Themes like captivity, passion, eruption, and self-discovery are often brought up, in a variety of different vehicles, including the emphasis on photography and volcanoes.

geryon has a believable and heartbreaking coming of age story and this is a story i would like to reread over again throughout the ages
he reminds me of me in my youth, battling feeling rebellious breaking out of your shell
similar love story to song of achilles

when you are a monster, when everything about you is red, you know what hurts the most? when he thinks that you are yellow, when he doesn't know you even in his dreams.

Remember:

“Reality is a sound, you have to tune in to it not just keep yelling.” and "Facts are bigger in the dark.”

and some beauty:

“Hard morning winds were blowing life bolts against the sky each one blue enough to begin a world of its own.”

“Geryon lay on the ground covering his ears The sound Of the horses like roses being burned alive”

Jeg tror det kræver en genlæsning for at jeg kan sige noget om eller give denne bog stjerner. Jeg ved det simpelthen ikke.

"You are lying there on some grassy hill, it's a sunny day with plethora of clouds dotting the sky, you are looking up and are filled with a feeling, you really can't describe, the clouds are shaped and morphed by your thoughts, there are shapes to the clouds but the meaning to those shapes are determined by you, you imagine birds and magical creatures and such and are filled with a feeling of feelings, a feeling of feeling happy and a feeling of feeling sad and so on, but after a while you start to get bored and get up to do something else. You forget the shapes you imposed upon these clouds, but you still remember the remnants of feeling the feeling of feeling "

This is how i felt about this book. It made me feel some stuff for sure, but i think it was more because it forced me to feel it rather than making me feel it on my own. The verse style genuinely just took me out. Like maybe I'm too stupid to get it but like i kinda didn't understand the line breaks at all, they were used in such ways that if you tried to read them like a normal poem or something they turn out to be so awkward, i feel like if the book was written with normal prose it would probably have been so much better.

Some lines here were genuinely so beautiful, but even then, that didn't help the feeling of boredom when i was reading the book

did not understand it *****
