2.5⭐️ This work was a feat in its own right but honestly, at what cost!? I absolutely loved the prologue introducing how the story fragments inspired the text. Then everything from there was simply weird!! It didn’t feel poetic, but garbled and jarring. Sexual abuse of a child at the start, a teenager following that, and really it was so unnecessary and bizarre. Based on the ratings I must be the only one who feels this way but I loved what inspired the reworked story and I really liked the ending but I hated everything in between and was glad the simplicity of the writing made it easy to breeze through quickly (though the structure made up for that beautiful feeling of imminent reprieve/liberation). After looking forward to reading this for so long, I’m only glad to put it behind me.

This is a challenging text, but so worth it! Amazing language. Interesting use of myth and contemporary setting. This is like reading V. Woolf or G. Stein, so buckle up!
