I'm not as interested in this as I hoped and it is kind of confusing to me (I don't think I am paying enough attention tbh)

This novel-cum-poem is a very peculiar read. It's never entirely clear whether Carson's operating in the past, present, or some other dimension where time has no meaning, or whether she's grounded in the real world, a world resurrected from classical mythology, or something in between. However, this deliberate ambiguity works well with Carson's verse and doesn't derail the story. My major objection has to do with the narrative feeling grossly incomplete. From the very first page Carson promises a climactic final conflict between Herakles and Geryon, but the story ends abruptly, without any sense of closure and and without the foreshadowed denouement ever coming to fruition. Finishing a book and flipping through the blank end pages, asking yourself, "Is that it?" is never a good feeling for a reader.

I shouldn't have listened to this on audio. I feel like a lot got lost for me, so for now I'm giving it 3 stars with the hopes that a reread in the future - without the audio part - will help me see what everyone else sees
