“It happens to me frequently.
You disappear? Yes and then come back.
Moments of death I call them.”

yeah, i don’t think i entirely got this one. this is definitely a book i need to revisit in the future but the prose was beautiful, i just truly don’t think i got it. i do plan to read some original greek myths later this year so maybe if i understand the geryon myth this would make more sense. but that’s all i really have to say for now.

I don’t know how to feel about this book. Did I love Greyon? Yes, from the very first introduction to him. Did I cry while reading this? Yes, I did. Did this book bore me from time to time? Also yes.

I loved the story of Greyon and him dealing with life. But there were some things, mainly in the middle of the story, where I wanted to just finish the book for the sake of finishing.
The prose was beautiful but sometimes hard to understand and making sense of some of the metaphors was hard.

I would definitely recommend this book for people who want to read something completely new but still a coming of age story. Beware of triggers warnings before reading.

I did wish a bit more substance for the plot and the ending. I get wanting to write a book that is beautifully written in prose but I would like a more fleshed out story, too.

Quick thoughtful poetry read. I often get lost in mythology and was scared of that at first but I loved how this was set in modern times

This book is hauntingly beautiful, to not give it a chance is a crime.

Very touching, both emotionally and aesthetically. I will likely purchase a copy some day, because it is deserving of study and highlighting. The language is gorgeous and natural, the story both human and mythic.

anne carson is a genius.
her writing is necessary, erotic and electrifying.
read this book on hot summer nights while wearing silk.
