Deeply surprised by this one. Elements of old fairytales, classic kids stories, gory body horror, crazy monster design, quiet romance, and family issues somehow come together in a truly wholesome story? I had so much fun, and really loved the monster in all her iterations.

What a unique romance. I don’t think I’ve ever encountered a protagonist like Shesheshen. Her character growth is remarkable and the parallels between her trauma and Homily’s are wonderful. Truly a beautiful story of ending cycles of trauma grossly told.

It's strange. It starts off well paced and interesting, but then the ending feels rushed and predictable.

This book is compared to the Murder Bot Diaries, but the narrator is less charming. She's not a bad character, but she also feels sort of flat. The story structure just wasn't quite there for me either.

The body horror was fine. 🤷 Mid
