More of the same. Which is good.

This was sort of a return to form for Dave & John, as I didn't enjoy the 2nd book nearly as much as the first and now this one. I enjoy the author's style of writing, probably because of all the time I've wasted reading shit on the internet. For writing a book about multi-dimensional experiences, the author tends to create one dimensional supporting characters. Still good fun.

Dumb pulpy fun. The writing is clunky as usual. The plot is all over the place and I really do feel like "what the hell did I just read", but not in a good way. The ending was a let-down for me, I can see how the twist plays into what was happening and how the story was told but it just didn't work for me. Rather than a big "ahhhhh" reveal, and the reward of understanding as things click into place, I just felt like "okay that makes sense I guess". But it's not enough to make up for that shambles of a plot.

Definitely fun in the same vein as the others, just not entirely satisfying.

Never has a book title been so apt. This book is weird, insane, and completely crazy. I love it.
This book has you reading one page in horror and the other one laughing, just like the first two in the series. Can't wait for the next!

Fun, imaginative, vivid and fast-paced. Some vulgarities and expletives, but the novel title should already hint at that and they didn't bother me.

I really enjoy these John Dies at the End books. It's not often I find a story that is laugh out loud funny. This one makes David Wong (Jason Pargin) 3 for 3. That's not to say that there aren't some very insightful and dare I say profound ideas in this book. The character of Doctor Marconi is terrific. This is a book that you don't want to take seriously but one that just might catch you off guard.

I'm going to read it again and try to count how many times the author writes "rain splattered" to describe something. (It's a lot)

Here is my favorite non-spoiler excerpt..

"The larva was now about 50% bigger than when we started. I could feel puffs of frozen dread pouring from the wound. It was a unique sensation; the best comparison I can offer is if you opened your fridge to realize something was rotten in there, then when you opened the cheese drawer, you found a photo of your mother fucking a Dalmation."

I've loved the 2nd and 3rd books of this series but nothing beats the first

This was actually my favorite of the John and Dave books so far--they're all quite good, but this one had more than the usual amount of character development, which I appreciated.
