This might be one of the worst books I have ever read. I kept waiting for some sort of redemption or explanation for the damaging comments about mental health and diagnoses, but the narrative remained consistent throughout. I only listened all the way through the audiobook with the hope that there was some explanation for the language.

I felt like the book was interesting but I really struggled with the mental health representation. I feel like it encouraged the narrative that those who are neurodiverse are “crazy” and off the wall. This is an unhelpful stereotype that further promotes isolation and not asking for help for those who may need it most.

This was a really good read! Ward D pulls you in with its dark, unsettling atmosphere and keeps you hooked through every twist and turn. The story is filled with betrayal, suspense, and the unnerving sense of seeing things that may or may not be real. Frieda McFadden does an excellent job of blurring the lines between reality and illusion, making it impossible to put down. With such a gripping plot, this book feels like it’s begging to be adapted into a movie.
