ahhhh...sorta sad that the politics really dropped off in this book. Compared to the first, the romance suddenly took much more center stage (lol me realizing why only the second book was tagged as "romance"), going from subplot to a driving force for the heroine's storyline, which could have been fine, of course, except it added nearly nothing to the story, and the author used characters' annoyance at other characters (so much "he pinched the bridge of his nose in annoyance") for 3/4 of the hero's plot--which rapidly got boring. I will still finish the series since they are easy to listen to and everything that is based on the Persian mythology is really cool! I think the author is in a good spot to redeem in book three. Hope the next book is better :)
And may I just say...
...of all the Stockholm Syndrome, eNeMiEs To LoVeRs, "but I can change him" flaming piles of horse manure--girl. GURL. He murdered his father in cold blood!?!? and consorts with the Devil!! and you are in love with someone else from book one??!! All the pointless ~forced proximity~ and overly long glances really killed my investment in the story. Only after the reader has to endure much of this ridiculousness do we find out he might not be a 100% manipulative psycho. I've read good romance. This storyline was not that.
The only possible justification for this I would accept is that this somehow reflects a storyline present in Persian mythology, which as of yet I am unaware of.
To quote Rhino the hamster from Pixar's Bolt, "That is totally unrealistic."

But the magic is really cool :)
