I know a lot of people love this book and the series but it was not for me.
I found the chacracters one dimensional, the situations that happened you knew were going to work out because it always does in Mitford. There were times when I thought on come on that is so unrealistic.
A shame, because I was so looking forward to this read.

This isn't like other books and can't be evaluated in the same way. So sweet. This is the series to read when life just seems too cruel (not mine, but in general). Pure.

This was a re-read for me. I fell in love with Fr. Tim many many years ago. Probably 30 or more years ago. The book is a bit slow, sleepy even, but still did not disappoint. It refreshed and renewed me. Sort of a palate cleanser - now time for something more meaty.

I read this book a few years ago, fell in love with it, and then read the entire series. Then I just had to visit Blowing Rock, NC, because it served as the model for the town of Mitford. It all made sense--what a beautiful setting and cute and unpretentious town.

My daughter had to read this for school. Since it was on my kindle and I had just come home from camp and needed to do nothing, I reread it (I think the first time I read it was like 20 years ago) and loved it all over again. So much good and solid God and Bible talk. Plus, so fun and funny. I forgot how much I love quirky town stories. Reading Mitford is Sabbath-ing to me.

Meh.....did not engage me. A series of mundane episodes in the lives of people in a town with a population of 200! I'm guessing its supposed to charming, but it had too many Bible references for me and to enough plot development.

Great characters and story. No sex or graphic violence.

Enjoyed the book but not one I would read again.

A really sweet and touching look into the (very fictional) life of a North Carolina clergyman. As a North Carolina clergywoman, I found a lot of it a bit too quaint to be very believable, but just because it's a little far-fetched doesn't mean it's not nice. 4.5 stars, rounded up for Barnabas, clergy dog extraordinaire!
