First and foremost this is not a fantasy book nothing that Arden has written before it’s not whimsical and enlightening and magical it’s cold and it’s rough but it’s also warm and embracing

The story is almost reminiscent of Addie LaRue I hate to make that comparison but if only to make people read this book for those that liked Addie.

It’s a world war 1 story about a brother and sister trying to find each other and the hardships they face along the way. Freddie’s tales of war and his encounters are so horribly real that I can really tell Katherine did so much research for this book of war stories as this felt almost like a documentary. It’s just a simple lovely book with one underlying small fantastical theme ish but it was so good and I really did enjoy it a lot
