Things are finally heating up and getting darker and darker as an overreaching arc develops across the series with the addition of more side characters on both sides of the fence. The problem? Alex doesn't know who is on which side of the divide.

Slowly but surely he has developed and finetuned his somewhat underwhelming powers and taken down players stronger than him with the help of his wit - brawn, meet brain! - and now he is on everyone's radar, and not all of that attention is good. With the mystery of the missing apprentices, Alex's own growing squad, and the prowling dark mages all out for his skin, he's going to need to stay one step ahead of the game to stay alive - luckily, that's what he does best.

A fun - if somewhat darker - read, and the Alex Verus series is one which I'd definitely recommend to Urban Fantasy aficionados. Give it a shot, you'll be hooked!

I blew through this book too. I think I am been reading instead of sleeping for the past couple weeks.

This was another exciting installment in the adventures of Alex Verus. This book introduces mage dueling, more dangerous characters and creatures, and a couple of characters who might be permanent? We will see if they survive through other books.

I still really enjoy Alex's character and I am glad Luna has found her place. Alex didn't have to make as many dark decisions this time around, thankfully for him. I'm glad Sonder has stuck around because I enjoy his character as well. In all, it seems less British and a little more urban than the first and second books.

There are a couple things I find myself considering in the aftermath of this book. Mind mages seem really out of control and I am not sure I understand how you fight them. What kind of mage is Lyle? Is he a mind mage? Also, a few things were introduced and seemed to disappear without resolution or explanation. For example, with very little spoiling, there should have been an effect or two of Luna's curse towards the end. What ever happened to Natasha? How did Alex see that stuff in his dreams? I also found the enemy to be a bit confusing.

I really did enjoy the book or I wouldn't have read it so quickly. I am becoming really attached to the characters and curious about their ever-developing world and adventures. It's face-paced and funny and I am already on to book four.

Continue to love this series, I just LOVE IT. Urban Fantasy at its best, so great to see that by book three I'm still dying to know more about the main character, the world, and everything. I guess the relationship between Alex and Anne is a BIT odd, like someone gave the author a note about what direction it should be, but other than that, love this series!

This third book in the Alex Verus series kept the action rolling. It didn't have the same magical charm as the first book, but it still excelled at being a quick, entertaining read. I've been enjoying the audiobooks. The narrator is British, so that helps add to the vibe. I hope this series continues to deliver. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to take a detour and complete some unfinished business before I come back to this.

Another fun installment in the Alex Verus series! A bit less fun, but a big dash of action to make up for it, this was quite an entertaining read. We meet old friends and new characters, and get to explore yet another kind of magic... Quite a mystery in this one, and I quite enjoyed it!

If you liked the first two, you'll like this too. I'll definitely move on to book #4 soon!
