This navigates to a really good mix of action and slice of life. There is a fantastic battle-of-sorts, between Frieren and a demon that served to hit every aspect this story has done so well. We uncover more of the past, more worldbuilding around demons and the past occurs, and the resolution of a conflict is done in an unexpected and different manner than you’d find typical in the format.

Also, the additional characters are well fleshed out and it continues to try to communicate Frieren’s character while being quietly subversive. Be it cozy or otherwise. Though, it is decidedly going away from the cozy aspect of the first volume. I hope it still pops up, from time to time, though.

Old enemies and new clash as Frieren, Fern, and Stark continue north towards the home of the Demon King. Aura the Guillotine, one of the Seven Sages of Destruction under the Demon King, as returned to seek revenge on Frieren for her and her former party's machinations against her. Will the actions of her past come back to haunt Frieren in the future? Will the trio be able to soldier on, or does their quest end premature in the cold grasp of the North?

This was a equally action-packed and introspective dive into Frieren's past and motivators, and a good finish to the current conflict the trio is facing. We get more glimpses of Frieren's upbringing and her time with her original part, and also get some levity with side missions and the (potential?) introduction of a new character. This continues to be a slower-paced, reflective series that still manages to capture the reader's attention with the occasional thrust into danger, and I can't wait to see what will challenge Frieren and her apprentices next!
