A dismal and gloomy tale! I had always wanted to read this classic more than others (unsure why) and did not know it would be the story it was. I thought it woud be similar to a Jane Austen novel and thought it was a love story in all honesty (some may argue it is). But this was a wild tale and it surprises me that even back then such complex characters could be formulated! It was definitely a creepy tale and the more I read and got to know Heathcliff, the more I felt he was actually and truly posessed by the devil!
I loved how this wasn't a fluffy warm story. Instead it was gothic and full of tragedy and I really loved the characters and their relationship dynamics - so interesting to read about!
Another thing I appreciated was the fact this book was very much about mental health and for that reason how beyond its times it was. I tried to intepret all the different mental health issues that were written about.
I have to also say that I did enjoy the narration style - was unique the way it was told as a conversation between various characters but mostly between Nelly and Mr Lockwood who seemed to be fascinated by the characters life stories.
I must admit I had trouble with the language (as I am not used to reading many classics) and so it could be a drag at times and meant I could only read it in small portions/ one chapter in a day. But I did also become accustomed to the writing and towards the end was just more captivated by the characters and wanting to know what happened to them. I had the most trouble understanding Joseph's dialogue (to the point I had to sonetimes read it aloud in a sort of Yorkhire accent!). Mostly his dialogue seemed like ranting so it didn't matter much.

really challenging read. I started off liking it since it was basically a the maid gossiping about the family, but then it was so dull and repetitive the remainder of the book.
