I have read several books from this author. I would comment by saying that the books this author writes are right in the middle between cozy mystery and the hardcore murder mysteries. This is perfect for readers who want more but without the gore.

This is the first time that I have listened to a books from this author. I really enjoyed listening. The narrator, Mike Alger made the listening experience so much fun. He provided each character's voice with a distinct one. You could hear the difference between male and female.

Cameron and Joshua made a good pair. They bounced off each other well. Each one separately are fine but together they are stronger as if one person. Each of the characters in this story were such eccentric personalities. Thus this helped to keep the story entertaining. Although, this is just the first book in this series, I have to say this might be by favorite one.

This is the first book in a series featuring Hancock County Prosecuting Attorney Joshua Thornton and Pennsylvania State Police homicide detective Cameron Gates.

When a group of people get together to clean out the home of a long time resident they barely escape with their lives. Someone had planted a bomb in the house that was discovered just seconds before it blew. While investigating the explosion an old freezer was found in the basement almost unscathed. The contents were very surprising – a body. A body that is connected to another murder committed back in 1978. It is up to Joshua and Cameron to find out sort out the clues and determine just who put this body on ice.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

This is my first book by the this author and have learned these characters were introduced in one of her other series. Cameron’s cat who happens to look just like a skunk is her full time ride along partner. Irving adds a bit of humor to what could have been a very heavy story. The story has the expected twists and turns and there are several possible suspects. These people have a lot of secrets that made the ending a bit of a surprise.

There is plenty of room for these characters to grow and evolve as the series moves forward. The jurisdictional issues were a bit confusing at first and the characters cross city, county and state lines throughout the story. Who was in charge or lead the investigation continued to swap back and forth as Joshua was building his case and Cameron was trying to solve hers. I look forward to seeing how this is dealt with in future installments. I am also anxious to see how Joshua’s and Cameron’s relationship goes forward. There could be many trials and tribulations as they try to move forward as the careers will continue to get in the way.

Lauren Carr will be an author I will continue to watch. She has set up a solid foundation for her new series.

Book Tour: Dead on Ice by Lauren Carr Dead on Ice is the first book that brings Joshua Thornton and his new girlfriend Cameron Gates together. This being that Cameron Gates is on the scene and investing Thorntons cousin home and finds a bomb in the home. Who planted it? Also who planted Cherry Pickens in the freezer in Joshua Thornton cousin Albert home.

Joshua goes along with Cameron while she investigates Cherry Pickens and then runs to have to solve Angie's murder. They do quite a few things. Donny gets involved a bit as well. What would all of Cherry Pickens friends want her dead? Cameron Gates has to figure out who and why all would want Angie and Cherry dead?

There are twists and turns to the end. Suspects are all over town in Hancock county. Will they find the killer of both Angie and Cherry? You will want to read to find out.
Lauren Carr is one talented writer. She brings you along to find out who the killer is. One thing I love about her mysteries is that you never know who the murderer is? I have read a few of her books already and reviewed a few of them. You are welcome to read my reviews that are part of this audiobook palooza. My reviews are Cancelled Vows, A Fine Year for Murder, Killer in the Band, The Murders at Astaire Castle, Candidate for Murder, 3 Days to Forever, Kill and Run, Old Love Die Hard, 12 To Murder, Open Season for Murder.
