Not Good For Maidens is a atmospheric horror based off of the poem 'Goblin Market' by Christina Rossetti.

Louisa doesn't believe in magic or the stories that her family tell her of the horrors they endured trying to escape it.
It is only when her aunt goes missing that the market calls to her.  Determined to save her,  Lou sets off on a quest to save her aunt.
Will the market claim her too?

This was an atmospheric and fast paced novel that never failed to lose me in it's pages.
On top of that,  this novel has LGBTQ+ characters present within it,  which is an amazing addition to the novel as well as the fast paced storyline and the right blend of fantasy and darkness.

Most of the time reading, I found it to be an easy read, but sometimes I found myself a little lost. I found myself lost more towards the end of the book because I did not understand some of what was being said.

However, I enjoyed most of the book and found it a decent and fun read.

*Spoilers below this*

The questions I was left with were:

The baby?? what baby and who??
Wait, I just read the synopsis, and Neela is Lou's aunt???? I thought she was her best friend for the entire book, I was so confused as to why Neela acted the way she did when she was rescued.

The perfect spooky season read for gothic fantasy lovers - a queer retelling of the goblin market with some witchy magic thrown in.

I’ve seen some reviewers dub this scary or petrifying, I’m the kind of girl that would be put off by that so I want to start by saying I didn’t find it too frightening, just slightly gorey in sections and gothic horroresque!

I couldn’t have predicted the direction this book would take, but I wholeheartedly believe it ended in the most perfect way.

I loved every second. The atmosphere, the goblins, the main characters, the timeline switches. It was all so good, made even more enjoyable by the fact I was in York at the start of the month and so I could picture the setting from my own memory, which was fun (but also, I’m really gonna be wary of the Shambles next time in in York

After I fell head over heels in love with "The Devil Makes Three" I immediately rushed to read the authors next work. Unfortunately, I didn't love this book quite as much. My main issue with it is the dual POV with two different timelines, I found the past timeline about May much more interesting than the present day timeline with Lou. Also, I was super excited in the beginning of the book to find out that Lou is ace, good ace rep is very hard to find, however it never seems to become relevant in either the plot or character development so it feels pointless to even mention it, other than trying to fake a diverse cast, since there's already lesbian representation in the book. I got my hopes up and was disappointed. That's not to say that it was a bad book, it wasn't. But it also didn't blow me away like TDMT did.
