A mystery with a touch of magical realism. My most favourite genre/sub-genre in one book.

Evelyn Hardcastle will be killed over and over again, and Aiden Bishop had to identify her killer to stop the cycle. The days will keep on repeating, but Aiden will wake up as eight different guests and seeing the situation from different point of views to solve the case.

This is a totally unique story and it will captivate you from the start. The story is complex, but I like it that way. The twists keep on coming, but it will be natural and not forced. This book has included magical realism in the plot lines, with a lil bit of sci-fi, so further explanation on why/how something happened had no needs to be explained.

CW: imprisonment, violence, gore, blood, death, death of a child

The Good:
• Unique storytelling device
• Interesting mystery

The Bad:
 • Lackluster worldbuilding
 • Too many twists

You Might Like this if You Like:
• Agatha Christie
• Time travel
• Sherlock Holmes

At its core, I think that this is a really fun mystery with a unique premise. As the story unfolds, the time loops begin to make more and more sense. Seeing a mystery from so many different angles really helps to fill in clues and makes the hunt for answers feel more dynamic. All of the hosts give fresh voice to the main character, but I would have liked for their characters to be more distinctive in their narration. Some of the differences feel more like telling rather than showing.

I did feel like the world building beyond the primary setting was incredibly underwhelming. The explanation that's given is lackluster, and I honestly would have preferred to not get any answers about the world outside the estate.

Additionally, I feel like the end of the story has too many twists. It starts to feel like there are too many endings, and the story just keeps going. Some twists work and make sense (or can even be guessed by the reader) but it just keeps going and going.

I would have liked a tighter plot without so much of the other stuff. Overall though, I had a lot of fun with this book.

Out of all the murder mystery books I’ve read, I’ve never experienced this type of tension and intensity. Unlike others where the story is presented in front of you, this book draws you straight into the story. Every chapter you are figuring out so much but so little at the same time. Every murder mystery should include time loops.

This was an Agatha Christie novel with a slight twist, which I realised would be the twist far earlier than the author intended.

I did not solve the murder part of it though so it was a win for the author there.

It wasnt so much that it was a bad book, I just didn't connect with it, I felt it quite drawn out, it definitely isn't my usual kind of book, but I am glad I tried it.

This concept had so much potential.. and was executed so poorly.
