I find myself struck sometimes at how incredibly deep Charlie can be. And I always have to take a step back to evaluate the sentiment behind his words.
If you're someone who is going through a tough period in your life and you just need someone or something to relate to.
Or just, i don't know... just, have something that can tether you to the real world but gives you an escape at the same time. That's what this book did for me. I'ts hard to explain because I feel such a connection to it.
If you need somthing right now. Anything. Anyone. Let Charlie be that for you.
Just as you were there for Charlie.

Marked to-read in 2009.

I'm getting there, to-read list. I'm getting there.
-----

My CD player in my car died on disc 5 of 6. This was infuriating, to say the least. I finally transferred the audio files to my phone, and listened to it through the car speakers.

And while walking around my house. And while working in my yard.

I loved this book. I loved this book so much. I was Charlie. I think a lot of us were Charlie. I wish more people had their Sam and their Patrick, and I wish they had them at the time that they really needed them.

This is so wonderfully written, so honest. No one is 100% perfect, or 100% bad. Sad scenes are simultaneously sad and maybe a little uplifting. The funny is sincerely funny. The sweetness. God, so much of this book is these little moments of absolute and utter sweetness that you just...wow.

SpoilerI was confused during reading, because the blurb for the book says he's haunted by something that happened as a child. And I thought that something was the death of Aunt Helen, and it didn't really seem like it was haunting him. Yes, we had that initial badness around his birthday, but it wasn't...

And then I was standing outside, working in my yard, when the epilogue, and the scene with Sam, hit, and I just froze. I literally said out loud, "Oh, my god, no."

Heart breaking. Just wrenching. And it comes at the ass end of the book, after Charlie has already had all of these wonderful and amazing experiences, and it's beautiful.

I can't even put into words how much I love all of these characters. Patrick and Brad, and how that relationship was torn apart. Patrick's breakdown. The park. I laughed out loud when the sports caster scurried away when Charlie recognized him.

Sam and the typewriter. Mary Elizabeth. The Christmas presents. Bill the professor, who I was worried was a creeper, but ended up being one of the top characters.

Fantastic cast of characters. Just mind blowingly fantastic.

And now I'm ready to watch the movie. I can't wait to see Emma Watson as Sam.
