I've wanted to read Sanderson for a while, but I've been intimidated since I DNF'd Mistborn ages ago (yes, I'm going to give it another go eventually) so I figured I'd start with his YA debut that was extremely hyped when it came out. I haven't heard anybody talk about the sequel (more because I watch different people now) and I liked the narrator of the audiobook, so I finally gave it a shot. Like many SFF young adult books I've read recently, the story didn't do anything outwardly wrong. The action was good, the characters were grounded, and the ending was perfect. It was a little bit more simple than I would have liked, which was expected but still underwhelming. I feel more of a push to read more Sanderson than a push to continue in this series, but I'd give it a shot. It's the most promising YA first book in a series that I've read this year, so it's got that going for it! I'd recommend this to fans of Illuminae.
