The girls enjoyed this one so much, and found it terribly funny. Me, not so much, but I will give it 3 stars nonetheless. It wasn't bad, just did not get the humour.

This. Is. So. Cute. I was expecting a fairly traditional retelling of either Beauty and the Beast or Snow White featuring this new entity, "squat bears," but this is neither of those stories, really. It's a mashup of many many many fairytales which turns gender norms on their heads (though I really don't think that was Bravo's goal). The illustrations are bright, colorful, accessible, and playful. And the most shocking thing may be that as far as I can tell, nothing is lost in translation. I have read many translated comics, and this might be the best one ever. Silly. Fun. Awesome.

Raina already said it best. I enjoyed this.

Although, I should note that Levi refused to read it because it looked too babyish. I thought it was cute, though.

When the Seven Squat Bears return from looking for food, they find a beautiful princess at their door. They know she will stay until they find a prince for her to marry, so one is sent off to find a suitable prince.

Another blending and twisting of fairy tales, this time Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, with some Three Little Pigs and media commentary thrown in for leavening. Again, this book lacks a soul or sense of fun, making it not funny or witty.

Skip it.

A very quirky mash-up of familiar fairy tale characters. Good fit for upper elementary readers who will appreciate the humor. Could also pair nicely with fractured fairy tale novels in an ELA class.
