The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson

The only thing that keeps this from being a 5-star book is how darn long it took me to get interested in it. Sanderson takes a rather slow, meandering course with this one, to the point where a lot of scenes with Dalinar and Kaladin begin to feel repetitious. But having read and been thoroughly been blown away by the Mistborn trilogy earlier this year, I knew Sanderson is a master of the long game, so I stuck it out even though with any other author the novel would’ve made its way into my “didn’t finish” pile.

Boy oh boy does that long game pay off.

And during a certain scene near the end where Dalinar repays someone whom he owes a great debt, my eyes did not get all weepy and I did not start crying at work. At all. Not even a little. Those were allergies.

Allergies, I say.
