Okay, so this one I liked even less than the first book. The MMC was supposedly in his late thirties but acted like a teenager most of the time, did not give off the vibes of someone mature. Also the storyline was crazy and not in a good way. I understand the book is meant to be dark and that there was a trigger warning list at the start but man, this is not a great representation of how authors should write about SA, just as a head’s up. This may be a spoiler but the FMC is SAed around midway through the book? It’s only a very brief description and it’s over very quickly, after that that she has some serious (and very understandable) trauma. But then, almost as if flicking off a light switch, she’s over it! And now she can move on and she’s fine again because she told the MMC and now she’s fine! Yeah, that’s a no from me. Girl needs some serious therapy after that, I didn’t agree with that whole plot, (this is just my opinion sorry if I step on anyone’s toes) I just think something like this needs to be handled with more care, it felt a bit callous. But if that doesn’t bother you, 1000% check your trigger warning and happy reading!
This is a tough one for me. I'd say 3.5 stars because I just didn't love it like I've loved The Sinners or The Saints. I was really looking forward to this one but it fell short for a few reasons. I knew from Destroy Me that Abigail was immature but she seemed younger than 21 to me. Even Nikolai said how her come on's were cringy yet it felt like overnight he fell in love with her. She never seemed to take her training seriously and her behavior was annoying. Her sexual experience didn't seem to make sense either. She's 21 but had been locked up for the past two years. Even before that she had bodyguards going with her everywhere and I feel like her father would be the type to ensure she stays a virgin. I can see her sneaking out and having sex a couple of times, but not to the level she seemd to be speaking of. Nikolai seemd to go from a 39 year old badass to... I don't know what. His character seemed to devolve to a 20 something year old. And just my personal preference - I can't stand daddy books. As soon as she called him daddy the first time, my excitement for the book plummeted and it was really cringy reading the sex scenes. This is my 12th mafia book by this author and that was really unexpected and I hope doesn't become a theme in future books.

The spoiled mafia princess is brash and forward and she wants her new instructor. He is definitely not trying to be in a relationship and especially not with this new, untried woman. She doesn’t have the skills to be head of a crime family, she wants to paint. She is great at that.
He is intrigued despite his best efforts and realizes his feelings almost too late. After a violent interlude, he steps in to help her heal and does a good job respecting her through the trauma she faces in this story.

Control Me is the second book in the Corrupted Royals series and follows Abbie (Aurora's friend from book one, Destroy Me) and Nikolai (an instructor at St. Monarch's). Abbie is your typical wild child but with a heart of gold. She loves and cares about her best friend, Aurora, and wants nothing more than to spend her days painting and flirting up a storm. Nikolai is older (39yo compared to Abbie's 21yo) and serious. He's not interested in starting up a relationship, especially with someone so much younger. However, he underestimates Abbie's ability to get under his skin and drive him crazy (in all the best ways).
I prefaced this review by mentioning the TWs because they're one of the main plotlines in this story. Personally, there were sections here and there throughout the book that I needed to skip/skim-read because of the topics. While it meant passing over sections of the book, it didn't affect my review or enjoyment of the rest of the storyline.
I really enjoyed seeing both Abbie and Nikolai's back-and-forth flirtations and the sweeter moments when Nikolai was caring for Abbie. It really showed their relationship development and the friendship that blossomed between them. Their interactions might have started from lust but they definitely felt genuine love and care by the end.
I also really enjoyed that it showed enough of Abbie and Nikolai's interactions through the events of book one to show their perspectives but still allowed their story to be more than that. Their story continued beyond the first book and showed more of the families and lives within this mafia romance world. As someone who hasn't (yet) read the rest of Heard's books, it was a great introduction to many of the characters she's previously written about and I cannot wait to delve further into their stories.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I love mafia romance and I'm very grateful to see the world that Heard created with this series. It was a fun take with strong heroines, protective heroes and an educational institution with quite a different take on learning experiences (lol). I also very much want to go spend some time on the Vetrovs' island. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys dark romance, mafia romance, age gap romance, forbidden romance and/or grumpy x sunshine characters.
Disclaimer: I received an ARC.

Phenomenal Characters
The characters in Michelle's books worm their way into your heart. The stories keep you engaged from page one. She gives you all the feels. The men are swoon worthy. This one gets 5 out of 5 flames.
I am always impressed with how well dark topics are dealt with. This on has lots of trigger warnings so read responsibly.
