The author writes the teenage character who is intended to be 16 as if she is 13, the way she speaks has a lack of sentence formation. Making some of the chapters a little hard to read, I had to reread a few pages as I felt like the introductory sentences of a few chapters
could have been written by either of the three characters. I did like the characters ability to self reflect and the ending made it feel like perhaps they didn't actually change their behaviour we will never know <spoiler>

I read this book just before my trip to Prague, as I'd never read anything by a Czech author before. It covers so many themes: family dynamics, depression, guilt, forgiveness, love, sex, drug abuse, communism, etc. It's a really bleak read but incredibly engaging and wonderfully written.
