Note: The Robin Edwards that Goodreads has as the author is not the correct author. The correct one is: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Robin-Edwards/e/B0058UAUSO/ref=dp_byline_cont_pop_ebooks_1
This was an enjoyable book that mixes historic fact and rumours together to bring a story of corruption, betrayal and religious scandals.
It is not a light read, Mr Edwards goes into great detail and there are a lot of footnotes on the facts of his story but that is not a negative, it incorporates so much actual history that it is incredibly interesting to read.
To bring the story to it’s most basic we follow Leonardo Da Vinci as he gets caught between 2 opposing factions, his life in danger all the time he must use his wits to be one step ahead or risk the wrath of the notorious Borgia family. The personalities of all the characters including some well known names from that time are great, Leonardo is a delight as the protagonist.
The front cover for me does not do the book justice to the plot, especially as Leonardo and pope Alexandra are the main characters I feel some sort of art with those 2 would make people take note more. I would highly recommend if you like a good historical conspiracy that deals with recorded facts and building a great story to fill in the blanks.
