The way the author describes loneliness is always on point. He makes it so vivid you can almost touch it. I really enjoyed the pov-switching chapters, and how by doing so, you grab bits and details of the whole puzzle piece. Murakami is quite good at it. And the plot? Definitely unique. If you enjoy magical realism, this is a banquet for you. If not, suspend your beliefs and go with the flow. It will surprise you.

Book 1 was so slow-paced that I almost gave up reading it. When I began book 2, it felt like things were finally happening. Still, universe building and scene setting shouldn't take so much time.

In addition to that, I gave these books a 3/5 because Murakami's depictions of women made me uncomfortable. Women and their connection to men in these books are nothing but a relief or an escape for men. It made me quite confused and disgusted, more often than not. So, yes, I absolutely do not like how he writes women. So if you're going into this, be prepared.
