Unfortunately I didn’t think this one was as strong as it’s predecessor. I just wasn’t intrigued by the new mystery and therefore wasn’t invested in Pip’s investigation nor the outcome. It also felt kind of “info-dumpy” to me at the end, and more like Holly Jackson was justifying the plot twist through the narrative at the end and not through the characters actions throughout the novel’s entirety. I did enjoy the podcast element though! I definitely recommend the audiobook for those portions. :)

This book was as artfully written as the first book in the series. The plot stays similar and connected to the first book, without feeling repetitive at all. It also helps tie up some of the lose strings and reveal consequences from the first book.

The characters are just as lovable, relatable, and realistic as ever. With this new plot, the reader learns much more about minor characters, such as Connor and Nat, which gives the case, setting, and community much more depth. Pip goes through some serious inner conflict and turmoil throughout the novel that deepens her character even more, leaning into some of her flaws and weaknesses.

In all honesty, the book began pretty slowly and it was hard to stay engaged. I had to force myself to pick the book back up and power through at times. About halfway through, the story really picks up again and grabs the reader until the very end, then I wasn't able to put it down!

This was good but definitely not as good as the first. This book felt slightly slower paced, and it took longer for plot twists to appear. I did love the character development of Pip and she really did come into her own as the protagonist. It was nice to see some of the background characters in the first book, get more of a main storyline. I am interested to see where it goes in the next book.

I will follow Pip wherever she goes. What a great character, complex and flawed and full of life. There’s much about this second outing that will please fans of the first book - fun format, a wide cast of characters / suspects, great dynamic between Pip and Ravi, and some serious sleuthing.

Perhaps it isn’t quite as twisty, and somehow for me, didn’t give me the same cozy vibe I had when reading the first book. I wasn’t turning the pages as compulsively. Still, it was cleverly done and complex. It was a solid second in the series and left me more than eager for the final installment.

This series is BEGGING to be made into a TV show. Just sayin’
