Thank you to NetGalley, author R. Dugan and Wave Walker Press for this eARC.

I love this book so much!
The writing is beautiful, the characterization is great, the story develops beautifully, the magic system is so cool & interesting and the slow burn romance is everything I want it to me!
The only reason it's not a 5 star read is because it takes the book ~20% to actually get started. Before that it's just a lot of descriptions and info dump.

This book. I’m not sure. There were many parts I enjoyed and many that dragged. Unfortunately it’s gets rather wordy and repetitive, but 35% really pulled me in. And about 10 minutes later back in a lull of descriptions. I loved the prose and the characters and the ending but could have been cut down a third.

Thank you to Netgalley and the author for the ARC! This is my complete honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I'm giving this story a solid 4 because despite a few things, it was a very enjoyable and a fun read! I loved the magic and epic feel of it.

I did feel like it was a very slow beginning, but if you stick with it, it's worthwhile and I found myself getting lost in the world once I settled in. There were parts that I found myself skimming just to get to the action. A good editor with some scissors probably wouldn't given this book a 4.5 for me. It is a very long book, but if you're looking for something to hang out with for a while, then I suggest this one!

Let me tell you a story...

Audra Jashowin and Jaik Grissom, a Storycrafter not able to end a story and a simple farmhand. Brought together by Luck's coin toss, they set out on an adventure to find out, why Storycrafter lost their ability to do just that - craft stories. As their relationship grows, they learn that not everything is what it seems.

I absolutely enjoyed this book. After a long time it was a story that just felt right to me, that scratched all the right points. It was adventurous, captivating and emotional. I really loved Audra and Jaik, they balanced each other and complemented each other well. I respecially loved how Jaik helped Audra thorugh panic attacks.
Even though the focus is on them, I felt like the side characters were also very interesting, so much so, that I now want to read their stories as well and just learn more about the other parts of this world.
The magic system of this book was also interesting, and something I have so far not read yet.
In general, I felt that the story balanced action and lore parts well and so I was not able to put down this book for even a second. I also think that the little hints and reveals about the truth that were placed throughout the book were done very  well.

A Story Spun in Scarlett is a engaging, mesmerising and enchanting tale that I absolutely loved. The writing was beautiful with vivid descriptions that instant pull you in along with romance and a unique magic system.

The main thing I really loved was the how the magic is wrapped up within the ability to tell and weave a story which gives the feeling of a book within a book something that I haven’t read a lot of. I love how we go along with Audra as she goes on her journey to navigate and unlock the trials which hold the mysteries to her past. The slow burn romance was also a favourite I found Jalik an interesting character and their connection was beautiful and believable.

The length of the book can feel intimidating but due to the plot moving at a really good pace that keeps you engaged I didn’t find it to be a problem and found myself not able to put it down. I’m looking forward to the sequel after the epilogue left me with so many emotions.

Thanks to Wave Walker Press, Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), Members' Titles, for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A Story Spun in Scarlet is a wonderful vibrant world where stories are without an end. It is almost like writers block has taken form into a malignant demon with a sole quest of ruining the world of Mithra Sha, which relies heavily on stories to create goodness in its world. Even as a reader you feel compelled for these stories to finish— as you reach closer to the ending of a story only to hav it ripped away from you as well. Somehow R. Dugan captures that yearning for an end into words
Magnificently done R. Dugan unique writing style sucks you in with beautiful prose and a threatening world. The lore was placed in convenient parts of the text and her writing is often lyrical and easy to understand.
I will be going against the grain here and say that this read is quite long and although I appreciated the world I felt like this story could have concluded with 100 pages less. Some parts were tedious with long descriptions and inner monologues, which could be the authors writing personality but I thought I would mention it because it is not everyone’s cup of tea. I would recommend this book to someone who has dipped their toes into epic fantasy and can manage the page count as I believe this would intimidate first time fantasy readers. if the notion of a story within a story intrigues you then this would be the book for you.

Imagine being an author of storyteller who CANNOT FINISH a story!! My heart broke for Audra at the end of that first chapter.
world and magic system unlike any I have read before. A Story Spun in Scarlet is a story about a storyteller, Audra, who can no longer finish her stories until she encounters a farmer, Jaik acts as a human amplifier whose presence allows Audra to finish her stories. Together, they go on a grand scale adventure.
A bit of slow burn romantasy but definitely worth the read.

I received a free digital ARC of this title for my honest review and opinion.

A Story Spun In Scarlet catches your interest with its beautiful cover, then keeps your interest with this one of a kind story.

The unique plot is something I have never come across before, which is so refreshing and mesmerizing from start to finish.

The slow burn romance, the unique plot and ohhh, the banter between the characters has made this a new favorite for me and hopefully the next reader as well.

Let me tell you a story…

A story about a woman who feels abandoned, lost, and as though she’s not enough. Who has traveled for ages to try and find her path, only to get caught up with a man she’s just met, who seems to affect her powers in a way she never expected.

I cannot say enough good things about this book. Audra and Jaik’s tale was incredibly captivating, an adventure full of twists and turns, and I couldn’t get enough. Getting to experience their journey took me through all of the emotions, and all of the stories within the story were so well told. R. Dugan, thank you for sharing this story!

I give this book 4.5 stars. The characters, the storyline, the writing all went together beautifully in my head, and it was so easy to picture the locations, fights, and love between the characters. Can’t wait for book two!

“The things we held onto the hardest were the things we’d brought with us into this strange, broken world.”

“A Story Spun in Scarlet” by R. Dugan

A world where storytellers bear the burden of lost endings. Audra is a storyteller and the loss of her family and friends haunts her. Audra, attempting to forge a new path, finds herself entangled in a web of mystery and consequences. Audra is talked into telling a story one day and with the arrival of a mysterious man she finally ends a story causing the end of new the life she built. Jaik, the mysterious man, is thrown into Audra’s world, they are on the run to seek for the reason the world lost the endings.

Wow… just wow. This book might end up being the best book of the year. The concept immediately drew me into the story. The story was so full of world building and character development. Not only do the characters transform from their current characters to their characters before the loss of endings, but they also undergo a secondary character development as they strive to rectify the chaos they unintentionally caused. The layered character growth is a unique dimension that is uncommon in the books I’ve read before. The characters were perfect, Audra and Jaik relationship felt authentic. The map page was so nice, gotta love a good map page. The book was long and it strengths the book without adding unnecessary things. The ending was absolutely perfect as well. I gave it a perfect 5 out of 5 stars.
