I wasn’t a huge fan of the conceit of Tomie generally, but I did enjoy the execution. Gross, creepy, the disintegration of people’s minds and relationships as they connected further with Tomie. How all consuming and dangerous an obsessive fixation can be, revealing the misogyny, power structures and cracks within society.

Tomie was such strong villain that you loved to hate. But also at the same time, you couldn’t help but root for her sometimes when after her violent ends she would exert her revenge on the society that let her down.

I wasn’t expecting this to be so episodic, I thought there would be more of a through line, and I think that impacted my experience with the collection. There were some stories and characters I just wanted more details on, which could’ve been full volumes in themselves. Overall, glad I read it, and I was pretty engaged throughout. My favourite stories were: Photo, Adopted Daughter and Moromi.

I personally feel as though starting with Uzumaki was a bad way to start my Junji Ito journey because as much as this was great, it felt lacking compared to Uzumaki. Still great, it just didn’t get to me as much. Uzumaki really got into my brain.

i had a lot of fun! i love stories with violent man hating women at their core but i can’t help but feel i was left wanting more! a very fun and gory ride but i wish there was more of a conclusive ending.

Manipulative women already scared me. This did a good job of scaring me anyway.
