"Spelling bees were a battleground where teachers trained me to wield language as a
tool & fist & weapon & warning to those who would rather make an outline out of me."

This was such an amazing collection of poetry.
Clint has a unique craft to his verses, they are honestly some of the best poems I've ever read.
This collection was full of lyrical writing that painted a clear picture. Each poem built of the previous one consistently throughout. The book explores themes of coming of age, Blackness and is full of political commentary.

Just beautiful. Smith’s poetry is enjoyable, readable, impactful, and leaves the reader thinking. I enjoyed each of the selections, and had a hard time picking a favorite to share.

Loved these. Did the audiobook and physical book together, which is my favorite way of consuming poetry, and Clint Smith's voice is of course amazing. As usual, some poems moved me more than others but this is a very strong collection and I enjoyed every minute of it.
