I loved listening to this. I could listen to Clint Smith recite the phone book but his poetry is lyrical and beautiful. A short but powerful collection discussing race, masculinity, his childhood, the cities he lived in (New Orleans, Cambridge/Harvard) and his work teaching in prisons. Powerful and lovely.

Not sure how to review poetry but I highly recommend this. It's written in a bit of a slam poetry style that I know a lot of people don't find that impressive, but the themes and how they're conveyed was very powerful. A short collection that will make me think for a long time.

"Ode to the Only Black Kid in the Class"
"How to Fight"
"Chaos Theory"

This collection makes you feel all the feels, from laughter (When Maze and Frankie Beverly Come on in my House) to sadness (For the Boys Who Never Learned How to Swim) to love (Each Morning Is a Ritual Made Just For Us) to just plain blowing your mind (Line/Breaks).  Such a great collection, even if you're not really into poetry, the impact of the words is undeniable.
