It was okay, it got really good towards the end! You can tell this is the base for the rest of the stories!

3.7 Stars. I was shocked at the opening scene. It was like jumping into the shallow end of the pool, but it was actually the deep end. Which I liked because I have been in a little bit of a slump. The storyline looks good so far, but it felt a little slow, not that everything that happened is unnecessary but just giving details that I could have skimmed over and not missed much. But I get it. Its fantasy and there needs to be some world building. And what a world it is. I knew the myth of Midas, but this story takes it and amplifies the story. I am definitely interested in continuing with the series. Fingers-crossed for some romance.

No plot apparent. No world building. Lots of sexual assault and abuse. Sex slaves called “saddles” and r*pe scene at the end. If I hadn’t heard such raving reviews about the next few books then I definitely wouldn’t have continued this series.

This was one helluva fever dream, but I am interested enough to see what happens next. Fair warning, readers check the CWs because it is a lot. I’ll give the author this though it starts HARD so you automatically know what you’re getting into and can decide “ok this is the tone” or gtfo.

As for the narrative and story structure: I’ll be real it was a slow start, like honestly… the pacing was going to make me quit the book before the content—but if you hang in there the middle really good and got me more invested in the story, and the ending was at least satisfying.

Auren is a complicated character. I’m on the fence with her, I can’t tell if I like her or dislike her. I’m not going to say hate because she’s not really all that bad and her decisions and headspace make sense due to everything that happened to her growing up and with Midas’s manipulations. I think there will be growth here so I’ll be a little on the kinder side to her in that regard.

<spoilers>I am forever going to be IRATE about Sail and probably Dig… I AM CURSED ಠ__ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻</spoilers>

Rissa is my ride or die though and if she does not get a happy ending heads will roll.
