3.9 AVERAGE

Did not finish the Kindle version. I liked the premise, but overall it felt like the characters were so busy applauding themselves and each other that I I wasn't sure when the plot would actually move forward. Maybe the BBC will work some of this into the next season of Around the World in 80 Days.

A painful read on par with the Swiss Family Robinson.

A wonderful mystery! I really enjoyed this story along with several HS students. PLEASE do not get bogged down in the sprinkled scientific descriptions...one does not need an understanding of these processes to enjoy and understand the story at all! For those that are inclined to such, it is simply an added bonus. I look forward to rereading this story!

This is my first Jules Verne tale (in book form) and it didn't disappoint. The style is in a dated vernacular, naturally, but I found it refreshing. There are some date discrepancies at the end but apparently that was the fault of the editor way back.
An interesting adventure, and chock full with names of flora and fauna that I was googling at every turn of the page... all new to me. Somehow I missed the map at the front until I was almost finished so that would've been useful, but no biggie. Also, It is very descriptive in the technical things the colonists devised for their survival on Lincoln Island (I skimmed some of it), so there's lots to learn from this book!

Human ingenuity at its best.

On one hand, I enjoyed the descriptive passages and overall liked the story, but on the other, the plot is ridiculous, defies any logic at all, and the ending felt hugely rushed. Probably a 2.5 rating.

A fun read, but one which left me a bit longing at the end. Clearly written partially in homage to Defoe, and partially with the Verne-standard eye towards the future, this story took a bit to wind up. After some up disjointedness in the beginning, it really got going in the middle such that I was flipping pages for the entirety of this gloomy Sunday. All in all, a good read, but I much prefer Around the World in 80 Days.
