I love Jules Verne, in that ... dorky uncle sort of way. If you're willing to skim past pages of plant/animal/rock classifications, he has some pretty good stories.

Unfortunately, playing Minecraft all summer with my son possibly ruined my ability to fully enjoy this particular book. Which is both sad and funny. However, the surprise twist at the end just made me say (repeatedly, out loud), "Dude, SERIOUSLY??"

But I am still glad I read it.

I was prepared but yet inpatient to read so much detail about methods of creating bricks, types of plants and animals, ways of building dams and so on. The book goes slowly because of these numerous descriptions and narration of nature and man's capacities.

I began this adventure book one summer while staining my extensive decking and realized half way through that my kids would love it. I quit it for over a year until I could fit it into our curriculum. It was well worth the wait!
