I really loved this book! Solid fantasy, and the last quarter is full of action. It's got a warm heart at the center.

i really, deeply, truly wanted to love this but for some reason it just didn’t do it for me. it seems ya books are either a hit or a miss personally, no in between.
so yeah, the fact that i struggled with picking it up —and finishing it— says it all.
the hardest part was story wise, it took me around 50 to 60% to get into it and that’s an overstatement. a good chunk felt like fillers with absolutely nothing interesting nor relevant to the plot happening. honestly i mostly wanted to get it over with and that’s coming from someone who loves east asian folklore inspired stories. which is a shame because i loved the characters. shiori, kiki, takkan and her brothers the princes (as well as a few others i won’t name to avoid spoilers) were all endearing and i wish i could read about them more… however i do not think i’ll pick up the rest of the series. at least not for now.
